We live in the day of cafeteria theology [take what you like and leave the rest] and sandlot theology [anyone can play the game.]

Rules for good theology must include:

1. It is Christ centered. It glorifies God.

2. It is not about me, it is not self-centered. [This is often hard to sniff out. Selfishness is very sneaky, but keep trying.]

3. It is Biblical. Not just a proof text, but does the tenor of Scripture support the idea.

4. Will it sell in Ethiopia? Good theology is cross-cultural. American Christianity sometimes sounds good to Americans but is irrelevant to those in other cultures. The gospel and the theology of the gospel are cross-cultural. It is true for every person in every culture in every age.
